Camantan (pronounced cah-MAHN-tahn) was a province of Viridia. After the Erenon Crisis of the Y12600s, Camantan and the neighboring province of Pashaltia declared their independence, forming the new nation of Pasuhalta & Kamman.

Geography

The borders of Camantan were delineated by the Sejur River, the Phiora Sea, the foothills of the Zakros Range, and the Urra Highlands. As is the case now, much of the province was open grasslands and plains, bordering on steppe, with relatively few trees aside from near the rivers and lakes. The region is broadly temperate with mild summers and cold winters.

History

Along with Pashaltia, Camantanwas annexed into the Dominion in the late eighth century as Viridia expanded east. Much of it was conquered not directly by the legions but rather by local warlords who received Viridian support and in exchange swore allegiance to the Ilirnan crown.

Seeing the Dominion's failure to manage the outbreak of the plagues in Erenon, and the heavy-handed methods of containment to the west with seemingly less concern about the east, the governors of Pashaltia and Camantan jointly made the decision to declare independence in Y9620* out of concern for what might happen if the plague were to spread into their lands. While the war for independence in Pashaltia was nearly bloodless, as the only Viridian troops present were those on the Erenite border, Camantan was not so lucky. The Legion of the East, which was on campaign in the Urra Highlands at the time, returned to the province and attempted to quash the rebellion. The independence movement prevailed, with the two former provinces uniting into Pasuhalta & Kamman, but not without many casualties and vast swathes of the countryside razed.

Post-independence the province was renamed to Kamman, reflecting an older, pre-Viridian term for the region.
