Hero's Peak is a city in the Viridan province of Tumunzar. It is built on and within the mountain of the same name, part of the broader Pike Mountains, and is the tallest in western Thadria, though it still pales in comparison to those of the Karn Andur to the east.
Hero's Peak has been inhabited since ancient times, and for centuries if not millennia served as the final stronghold of the Tumunzari dwarves in times of crisis. It is well-protected from all directions, including from the sky and the Depths, with its maze-like inner city especially suited to fortification should the outer defenses be breached. Its bulwarks and traps are not merely precautions but have in fact seen use repeatedly, though not since the Council Wars of the late ninth millennium.
The population of Hero's Peak has fluctuated greatly over time. With roughly 27,000 inhabitants as of Y9976*, it is currently smaller than it has been in many centuries, as the long years of peace have led to its dwarven residents gradually departing to other parts of Tumunzar or even farther afield.
In the process of Tumunzar's accession to the Dominion, Hero's Peak was the last city to remain independent, and staunchly remained so for almost fifty years longer than the rest of the province.
