Kussara (pronounced kuh-SAH-rah) is the eastern-most major city in the Viridian province of Herren. Located south of the Karn Andur on the coast of the Chaska Sea, Kussara was originally established millennia ago by the dwarves of Barat Rkund as one of their exceptionally few trading settlements, a link to the broader world across the waves. By the time the legions of the Dominion arrived in the region, however, the dwarves had already abandoned Kussara, leaving it to the largely human population that arrived from Dalbanu.
While many people from eastern and northern Thadria have settled in Kussara over the centuries, the city retains a culture that is distinctly more Dalbanu than Viridian. Multiple living saints have in the past established themselves in the community, and though there are none at present, its inhabitants continue to elevate Socharin as their patron deity. Any governors appointed by Viridian monarchs to rule Kussara must seek, and receive, the support of the god's local temple in the ziggurat near the coast, which is socially and politically quite powerful.
The name of the city is derived from its ancient Rkundi name Kuzur.
