Karakisa (pronounced kah-rah-KEE-sah) is a city in the Viridian province of Attalea Major, located on the Thadrian side of the entrance to the Tanerde Strait from the Sea of Ersas. A site of great strategic importance, the conquest of Karakisa by Merulus Numida in earliest years of the eighth millennium is often credited by historians as the deciding factor that led to the rise of Viridia as first a local and later a Chaskan power, as it granted the nascent realm nearly complete control of trade passing between the Ersas and the Phiora Sea.
Though the Viridian legions and navy still maintain a strong presence in Karakisa, there have been no significant threats to the city in many centuries, and in fact today it is better known as a resort for the wealthy and powerful of the Dominion. Its bathhouses, filled with water delivered via aqueduct from Lake Caanthus over 150 miles from the east, have a reputation as some of the finest and most luxurious in all of Viridia, and it is not uncommon for senators to travel south from Ilirnas to relax between debates.
Most of Karakisa is perched atop a high cliff above the sea, though some parts, such as its docks, some warehouses, and a small amount of housing for the lower classes are instead built atop the rocky beaches or carved into the cliff face over a hundred feet below.
Due to its unique importance, no senatorial family has control over Karakisa, but it is rather ruled directly by the Viridian monarch.
