Shemenet (pronounced SHEH-meh-net) is an ancient kraken worshiped as a deity by the Kreshensage, a reclusive merfolk people who live far below the Na-Gaesa Ocean in the Frigid Deep. While Shemenet is a great and terrible hunter who must be discouraged from devouring her followers, should their faith endure she is also their protector against the dangers posed by the deep sea and surface alike.

Immense even by kraken standards, Shemenet is a fearsome hunter of the deep sea, equaled by none. The half-devoured corpses of other sea monsters she leaves strewn across the Frigid Deep is testament to this. Yet the Kreshensage look to her not only with fear but also with admiration and reverence, as through her might she keeps them safe from the dangerous creatures that live far beneath the waves. They attempt to direct her attention towards specific monsters that threaten their deep sea communities, but even this must be done with care, for a single miscalculated move could bring her to bear on the Kreshensage instead.

The Kreshensage are effectively the only worshipers of Shemenet. Her faith is actively hostile to those who live above the waves, and the merfolks' isolation from the sahuagin and locathah communities of the Wounds has led to the god remaining entirely their own. They have little interest in proselytizing regardless. After all, Shemenet protects them and them alone - why should her attentions be split towards others?
