Shar Osk (pronounced SHAR OHSK) is a shar, or fortified city, in Abanir. It is located to the southeast of the Arbuk Hills in the central Aban Steppe, close enough to the Hundred Days Road that it sees some visitors yet far enough away from the typical path that trade with passing merchants does not significantly contribute to the local economy. Shar Osk has long been inhabited by the warlike Ixranai tribe, which straddles the line between targai and gatai - they seasonally leave the city in large numbers to hunt and raid, leaving only enough behind to form a small garrison in the summer months, before returning once more as the winter descends. Two great horse effigies to Uxtama stand outside the main gates to the city to stand as monuments to those who thought they could defeat the Ixranai, periodically refreshed with bone and wood taken from the animals and chariots of defeated foes.
