The Ayavin Range (pronounced EYE-ah-vin) is a major mountain range in northeastern Meklaw. Smaller than the Ancas Mountains to the southwest, both in area and in the heights of its tallest peaks, the Ayavin Range is also considerably drier and rockier, with little vegetation growing even in its lower elevations. As a result it has historically been sparsely populated, with few of the hanging monasteries or terraced communities characteristic of the Ancas. Particularly notorious tengu pirates seeking to hide from privateers or other anti-piracy forces pursuing them sometimes abandon their ships on the coast and hide in the Ayavin Range, knowing that few will pursue them there and none will find them.
