Necho's Canal (pronounced NEH-cho) was a canal that was meant to connect the Aur River to the Kilche Sea, begun during the reign of the Khapshan king Necho in the forty sixth century. Intended to run from the river near Merenre in the west to the Salt Coast in the west, the project never saw completion, as it was abandoned soon after the death of the monarch who bears its name. Still, the remains of almost 150 miles of the canal are still visible in some parts of the desert, even if it none of it that was excavated ever saw water.
