Kerma

From gronkfinder

Kerma (pronounced KUR-mah) is a small village of about 150 humans, located on the southeast edge of the Turquoise Oasis. Otherwise an unremarkable settlement of farmers, the inhabitants seem to be under the strange condition of always believing the next day to be the day of their harvest festival, no matter the time of year. Their other memories are otherwise unaffected. An odd and unfriendly wizard watches the village from afar. A mysterious disease struck the town in Y9976*, though it was halted with assistance from the wizard. Very few from outside ever visit the town, though the inhabitants seem to be very intrigued and excited when this does happen.

People and points of interest

A monumental ancient temple sits about half a mile outside town, to the south east. The inhabitants give it a wide berth, superstitious of what is inside. Rectangular in shape, about 40ft by 100ft with outside walls about 20 ft high, the entire structure is covered with carvings of agricultural scenes. A large set of stairs leads up to the front door. A group of adventurers entered in Y9976* and took the valuable items within. Sometimes, villagers of Kerma who get too close claim they can hear faint mooing from inside.

A smaller cluster of ruins sits about half a mile to the south west. One of these is a tower, originally about four stories tall, though the top level has collapsed. This tower in particular is occupied by the unfriendly wizard. A thin cloth sheet serves as a door. The first level is a living area, with a simple bed, table, and hearth, and the second is full of bookcases crammed with pages and pages of handwritten papyrus notes chronicling in great detail the goings of the town. The third level has nothing aside from a chair and small table next to a window, and a magical brass telescope aimed at the town. Outside the tower, a cluster of boulders encloses a small pool of water - fungi, seemingly tended as a small garden, grow around the pool

A wizard (name unknown), an elderly human man, watches the town from his tower. He dresses in very plain robes, and has a gaunt and unkempt appearance.Very little is known about his motivations, other than that he is apparently both quite obsessed with and protective of the town. It is rumored that he has hunted down those that have hurt townsfolk in the past, though he seems to have no direct involvement with them otherwise.

Setre, a middle-aged human woman, serves as something of the town’s leader. She has sandy blond hair, and skin weathered by constant exposure to the sun. She is hospitable to outsiders, though her constant anticipation towards “tomorrow’s” harvest festival tends to confuse travelers.
