The Chain is an archipelago in the Wounds, perhaps the most culturally and geographically varied of all of them.
Geography
The islands of the Chain, in the southeastern Wounds, lie in a roughly west-northwest to east-southeast arc, stretching well over 4000 miles from one end to the other. Even now the archipelago continues to expand, as the volcanoes that shaped it are far from dormant and are actively forming new islands. As with the rest of the Wounds, the Chain has a tropical climate with little seasonal variation in temperature, though with distinct wet and dry seasons.
The Vivid Reef can be found in the sea amongst the central islands of the archipelago, home to a dazzling array of marine life in a spectacular array of colors.
On the far eastern side of the Chain lies the Roots, home of the oldest known Ta-Lasau-Kori tree.
The Chain is roughly 1600 miles north of the Salt Spring Archipelago, 4500 miles east of the Grievous Islands, 2000 miles southwest of the Soul's End Islands, 1900 miles south of Harv Doruhl, and 2800 miles south of Phersu.
Inhabitants
A great many Fanakara and Keleta-Ru tribes call the Chain home, as do other peoples of the Wounds like the Zabarshu elves and the Fjarri. The immense distances between many of the islands has led to a wide array of cultural practices, as each group has the geographical isolation to grow in their own way while still remaining in close enough proximity with others to share stories, ideas, and trade goods. Many Itothani locathah settlements have long prospered in the surrounding seas and in the Vivid Reef as well.
Notable settlements on the Chain include the following:
- Ba-Reteli
- First Seed
- Kora-Re-Wa
- Miy-Tobeli
- Ra-Kapa-Galo
- Radae-Ta
- Waves On The Jagged Rocks
- Windswept
Nearby aquatic settlements include the following:
