Centaurs are one of the major ancestries found on Kishar.
Appearance
Though all have the upper body of a human and the lower body of a horse, centaurs otherwise vary widely in appearance. Some, particularly those who live on the Aban Steppe, tend to be small yet stocky, at least in comparison to those in Hellea, who can reach over 7 feet tall. Their hair and skin are generally darker but this too varies.
Location
While centaurs are perhaps best associated with Hellea, where they feature prominently in myth and history alike, today there are relatively few centaur tribes remaining on the peninsula. The best known there are the Kheironoi of the Thunderlands. Other Hellean centaurs can be found in the remote reaches of northern Magnia and in the Halakran Greenwall.
Elsewhere in the world centaurs primarily live either in remote and rugged places or in wide open landscapes. Many can be found in the Sagaritian Uplands and the Kheldezir Hills in the interior of the Western Coast, throughout Abanir, and in parts of the northern coast of the Phiora Sea around Massalia and Sanagoria.
Culture
While not a universal trait, centaurs tend to be strongly traditionalist, often proudly keeping traditions dating back many thousands of years, passed along through oral narratives. They nearly always maintain nomadic lifestyles within certain territories of which they are highly protective. The ever-growing settlements and nations of other peoples have pushed centaurs out of many of these lands over the centuries, a slight many continue to greatly resent, sometimes to the point that it leads to violent clashes. Despite the reputation this has brought, however, centaurs broadly abhor fighting, and live peacefully alongside others in places where they are allowed to roam freely across their landscapes.
Centaurs usually organize themselves into tribes. Though these tribes can be many hundreds strong, they rarely congregate together, instead dispersing into many bands of perhaps two dozen individuals at most.
Lifespan
Centaurs have an average lifespan of around 60 years.
