The Green Eyes are a pair of large cenotes in central Kiyashe, named as such for their distinctive bright green waters when viewed from above. As with many cenotes in Kiyashe, the Green Eyes are inhabited, primarily by merfolk but with smaller populations of azarketi and aquatic elves as well. The two sinkholes are connected by water-filled cave systems that also stretch outwards into the surrounding karstic landscape.
Once one of the most prosperous communities of Kiyashe, the Green Eyes have fallen to infighting after the death of their last monarch, Kurash, in Y9962*. Two of his senior-most officers, Barzia and Dariamus, both claimed legitimate succession, and each quickly seized control of one of the Eyes. Though the populations of the cenotes are broadly opposed to the rule of either, the two generals have kept control of their respective halves of the city's military since, barricading the connecting tunnels and entering into a standoff that as of yet shows little sign of abating. Many former residents of the city have fled into the more remote of the outlying caves, abandoning the once-grand palace-cenotes that are now slowly decaying from lack of maintenance.
