Demotic (pronounced deh-MAH-tick) is a dead language formerly spoken within Khapesh. Today the language only sees use in a scholarly context, with many learned individuals continuing to use Demotic for scientific, arcane, or clerical purposes. Across Khapesh many old tombs and ruins bear inscriptions in Demotic, and some adventurers have found it useful to pick up at least a cursory understanding of the language as a result.
Meroitic, the widely-used language of modern Khapesh, is a descendant of Demotic.
