Ha-Rase-Metu (pronounced HAH-RAH-seh-MEH-too) is an archipelago in the Wounds. Though the islands have a large population of their own, their relative central location within the Wounds has led to them being used by many nomadic groups as convenient stopping places as they journey across the Na-Gaesa Ocean.
Geography
The tropical islands of Ha-Rase-Metu are rather flat compared to those of many other nearby archipelagos - as a result it is one of the few regions of the Wounds where intensive agriculture is effective and worthwhile. Much of the interiors of the islands are covered in palm forests. The climate of Ha-Rase-Metu is warm to hot year-round, with variation throughout the wet and dry seasons. Islands within the archipelago formed from both volcanic activity and from uplifted atolls.
Dense seaweed forests grow in the shallower waters around some of Ha-Rase-Metu's southernmost islands. Thick enough on the surface to be walked upon, small turtle-villages have been established on top of some of these forests. These also serve as havens for the aquatic populations of the islands, a place where they can seek refuge from the sharks and other predators that hunt in the ocean nearby.
An unusual density of Ta-Lasau-Kori trees grow on Ha-Rase-Metu. One of the islands, Kena-Wa-Ne, is home to a small grove of five of these trees within a square mile, a highly unusual number to grow on a single island let alone that close to each other.
Ha-Rase-Metu is roughly 750 miles east of the Nests and the Protectors, 800 miles west of Varameno, and 820 miles northeast of the Grievous Islands.
Though it is located over 230 miles north of the rest of the archipelago, the Forgotten One is considered by most to be part of Ha-Rase-Metu.
Inhabitants
Keleta-Ru gnomes account for the majority of the population of Ha-Rase-Metu. The islands are viewed by many of the gnomes as a homeland of sorts, though none agree if their disparate tribes actually spread forth across the Wounds from Ha-Rase-Metu or if they merely began to use it as a central gathering place as a stop on their endless sea voyages sometime later. Fanakara tribes, largely human in ancestry, can also be found on Ha-Rase-Metu, primarily on the eastern islands. Locathah and aquatic elves live in small settlements offshore as well.
Notable settlements on Ha-Rase-Metu include the following:
