Mariyan (pronounced MARR-ih-yahn) is a small city in the breakaway orcish region of Hkarzda, formerly within the Viridian province of Talliastu. As the last major settlement along the Amani River before reaching the Dominion-controlled fort of Katakan, khanate-aligned orcish clans have spent considerable effort and blood in securing Mariyan. The only major battles of the otherwise low-level civil war within Hkarzda have been fought in and around Mariyan, and though the city has largely recovered from this period of strife, much of its outskirts remains in ruins, and almost a quarter of the city's population has fled.
