Walking hives are a type of construct created by some nomadic peoples of Brightmarch. Typically made of clay, stone, or wood, these ten to fifteen foot tall golems are designed to serve as ambulatory homes for bee colonies. Protected entrances located on the top of the torso, where the head would otherwise be, allow the insects to enter and exit the construct.

The nomadic bands and tribes of Brightmarch sometimes use walking hives to keep their apiaries with them as they move across the landscape. The constructs can also serve as formidable defenders when required, using both their own size and strength as well as their carried swarms to hold foes at bay. Use of walking hives has not spread widely outside of Brightmarch - some Hinthialite elves build them as well, but they are not well-known to the broader world.

On occasion walking hives are left behind or else fail to follow their creators commands. Some of these remain in place, while others wander aimlessly. Untethered walking hives can be a significant threat to unwary travelers that cross their path.
