- Masyakata, a powerful general of Rovakhit, is dispatched by the Ether Council on an expedition into the eastern Uxtamazata Desert. Though this expedition was intended to kill him, Masyakata survives, but only as a skeleton. To hide he splits his body into six pieces and has them carried to remote places across the Aban Steppe.
