The Land of a Thousand Bonfires is a collection of islands and peninsulas on the southwestern edge of the Stormlands, west of the Tcheren Mountains. It is the the northernmost part of the territory of the tribes of Uulam, relatively more temperate than the rest of the frozen, ice-covered landscape - in the boreal forests of the region winters are harsh and long but they do, eventually, give way to more temperate summers.
The name of the region comes from the many fires regularly lit by the tribes who live there, not only those of the eight so-called bonfire tribes but also many others. The comparative lushness of the archipelago and coast lead many who live south of the Ubaaluu Mountains to seasonally migrate north and west to the area, where they can enjoy productive hunts and subsequent feasts even in the colder months of the year.
At times the oni lords of Maukra lead expeditions south into the Land of a Thousand Bonfires to raid and for prestige, though its Uulam inhabitants have become quite prepared and skilled at avoiding them, retreating from their coastal villages and encampments into strongholds hidden within the forests well away from the water.
