Matl Axuni (pronounced MAH-tl axe-OO-nee) was, briefly, an autocratic ruler of the Broken Traverse between Y8522* and Y8568*. Styling herself as a scholar-prince in the image of the old Eitan elves, she consolidated the disparate towns of the decaying bridge, governing them from a small palace constructed on a bridge tower south of Passage. How she accomplished this is not precisely known, but today Bridgedwellers tell stories of Axuni's glass-magic and how their ancestors were compelled to work towards her ambitions. Neither are her origins any better understood, for it is said that she arrived from across the sea speaking a language unknown to the people of the Laqto Rainforest.

Axuni's reign was ultimately undone by a coordinated rebellion of the Bridgedweller towns, who drove her away back across the water and reinstated their traditional democratic governance. Her palace was quickly torn down as well, and the bridge tower upon which it sat now lies permanently empty, left alone as a monument to the sacrifices of those who suffered under her rule.
