The Var-Tchukka (pronounced VAR t-CHOO-kah) are a gnoll people who live in the Asvan Mountains and the surrounding hills in northern Amshan. A subgroup of the Ku-Hakkara of the Taizzan Expanse, the Var-Tchukka are culturally broadly similar, but have a more unique view towards raiding and personal property.
History
It is unknown when the Var-Tchukka split from the Ku-Hakkara. To even refer to it as such is likely inaccurate, as they far more probably grew more distinct over time due to their relative isolation than separated due to any particular event.
Location
The Var-Tchukka live in small settlements that dot the montane woodlands in the Asvan Mountains, as well as in some of the southern foothills of the range. They are uncommonly found outside this region.
Culture
While culturally quite similar in many ways to the Ku-Hakkara - their religious beliefs, diet, social organization, and traditions are largely shared - the Var-Tchukka still stand out in some ways. For one, they have effectively no concept of personal property, and if an item possessed by another would prove useful, have no hesitation or compunction about simply taking it for themselves. In turn, they fully expect others to do the same towards items they hold. This view then complicates their practice of raiding, something their tribes, much like other gnolls, turn to especially in times of scarcity. They do not view such actions as even inherently hostile - in fact, to act with violence towards them for such a raid is to them unusual, and only at this point will they draw their weapons.
