Kawhan (pronounced CAW-hahn) is a tropical island within the Wounds, one of the southernmost within the archipelago of the Chain. It is particularly notable for the deep-red sand of its beaches. According to the legends of the Farnakara tribes of the island, in the distant past a great hero dragged the many-armed sea beast Teru-Va-Lade to the shores of Kawhan, where he proceeded to slay it, permanently staining the sand with its blood. The hero's name has intentionally been forgotten out of fear he may have been a Si-Namuhu.
The only large, permanent settlement on Kawhan is Ba-Reteli on the north side of the island. Other temporary villages are set up by the Farnakara as they seasonally move across the island.
