Nionegrast (pronounced nigh-OH-neh-grast) is the capital of the Tirionite colony of the same name. It is the largest city in the region, which has in part led to its position as the economic center of the southern coast of the Chaska Sea.
People and points of interest
The Old Square was once at the center of Nionegrast, though the city has since expanded inland. By decree of the council, the square is kept free of merchants, and only really used for sanctioned festivals and events. In the middle of the square is the Fountain of New Ventures, a large, multi-tiered waterworks that also serves as a shrine to Hasamel.
The Hall of Democracy is a large, finely constructed building at the Old Square. Resembling a Hellean temple more than anything else, the Hall is a rectangular structure with a long gabled roof, supported by columns around the exterior. While some of the building is made of marble, the cost of importing this material during its construction proved prohibitive, and therefore most of the building is actually wood plastered to look like the more valuable stone. The official seat of government in Nionegrast, few are allowed inside, and those that are must request and be granted special permission first.
The docks of Nionegrast are constantly busy. Raw resources arriving from inland are sent to the expansive warehouses and yards, organized and inventoried before being sent off on merchant vessels across the Chaska.
