The Sea of Dread and Promise is a region of the northern Sangora Desolation, a large expanse of dunes interrupted periodically by tall rocky outcroppings. In the early tenth millennium the sea was the site of a minor gold rush after oddly largely amounts of the precious metal were reported to have been found in the mountains. Treasure seekers flocked to the area from Khapesh, the Western Coast, and elsewhere around the Chaska Sea, establishing small prospector communities in the shadows of the dunes. Ultimately very little gold was ever found after the initial windfall discovery, and the villages were soon abandoned almost as quickly as they were built. Only their ruins remain, largely buried by the sands.
