The Moon Khanate was a short-lived nation on the northwestern Aban Steppe, centered around its capital at the now-destroyed city of Shar Xai, that existed from Y9623* to Y9710*. Established by the Hruz clan of Druzdan orcs, the subjects of the Moon Khanate were a motley mix of orcs, largely new arrivals to the region, along with existing communities of gatai within the lands claimed by the khanate. All seven khans throughout the nation's short history attempted repeatedly to demand tribute from the targai within their territory, as a way of gaining control of the nomadic people, yet all were continually unsuccessful. Ultimately this heavy-handed approach to the nomads would be the khanate's undoing - a targai raid on Shar Xai in Y9710* escalated until the entire city was burnt and its stone walls torn down, after which the orc ruling class scattered.
Officially, the name of the nation was the Hruz Khanate, after the ruling orcish clan, but both in its time and in the modern day it is more commonly referred to as the Moon Khanate, referring to the banner used by the Hruz clan.
