The Kilche Sea (pronounced KILL-chee) is a major body of water. While the western and northern coasts of the sea are largely dry, arid, and inhospitable, major nations have grown to the south and east.
Inhabitants
In the northern reaches of the sea, the Khapesh-aligned city-state of Avaris is the only major settlement to be found, at least since Akhom was devastated in the Deluge. Much of the western coastline is similarly sparsely inhabited - the mortic communities of the Sahelia Cays are the largest on this side of the sea.
Tarkuus is, by a significant margin, the largest and most influential nation on the eastern side of the Kilche. Along with the undead empire are the crusaders of the Dawnflower Refuge, the pirates of the Blacksand League, and the diaspora communities of Rudamun.
In the south are the nations of Kea Racha. Pela Huban and Langkha are especially influential, driving much of the mercantile traffic on the sea.
Within the sea
Compared to the Chaska Sea to the north, considerably fewer underwater settlements can be found in the Kilche. Those that do exist can mostly be found in the reefs near the western coast, especially around the islands of the Sahelia Cays.
Geography
Though not naturally connected, artificial canals at Avaris allow the waters of the Kilche and Chaska seas to flow into each other. The Sangora Desolation and Taizzan Expanse meet the Kilche along the northern and western coasts, desert turning into sea. In the northwest vast beaches of salt give the Salt Coast its name.
In the south, the Kilche widens as it flows into the Mhasmuth Ocean to either side of Kea Racha. Large typhoons are seasonally common in this part of the sea.
Archipelagos can be found near both the western and eastern coasts, most of which are inhabited.
Trade
The Kilche trade corridor is one of the most highly traveled in the world. Most ships venture between Avaris, Tarkuus, and the ports of Kea Racha, and Pela Huban in particular.
Piracy is rampant in the Kilche Sea. Most of these pirates consider themselves part of the Blacksand League and operate out of the anarchic ports within the Blacksand Archipelago. Tarkuus has an unclear relationship with these pirates, though certainly seems to be remarkably tolerant of the seagoing brigands that can be found in great number not far from its own shores.
