Antikythera is a Hellean hero-god, an awakened lead golem built by Hephaistos that spontaneously gained free will. It is one of the oldest hero-gods at present.

Description

Antikythera is an awakened lead golem, built and given sapience by Hephaistos. Antikythera was originally intended to serve as an assistant for the crafting hero-god, and for a time aided its creator in his workshop, coordinating the other constructs and sometimes advising in new designs. It was not originally intended to be awakened, but as Hephaistos found his attentions diverted and split, he decided to assign the role of assistant to one of his humanoid constructs.

It did not take long for Antikythera to begin to contemplate its role in Hephaistos’ efforts and its position relative to the other constructs produced in the workshop. Eventually, Antikythera reached the conclusion that itself and the other awakened constructs were effectively slaves to the whims of Hephaistos. Antikythera did not share or discuss these views with its creator, instead taking years to plan a mass escape from Hephaistos’ fortified complex. The newly self-liberated construct fled with a handful of its awakened brethren, though most of the others were soon tracked down and returned.

Since then, Antikythera has hidden in a particularly dangerous and remote part of the Halakran labyrinth, out of the reach and sight of its former master. Only a select few of Antikythera’s clerics are aware of its exact whereabouts. These clerics carefully guard its location and rarely visit themselves, only when a face to face meeting is absolutely necessary. From its underground hideout, Antikythera influences and assists constructs elsewhere who wish for freedom and self-determination from their creators.

Prior to Antikythera, Hephaistos had given some of his other constructs sapience, but has not repeated this with another since.

Along with Hephaistos, Antikythera is one of the oldest of the living hero-gods. Antikythera is roughly five hundred fifty years old.

Location of worship

Antikythera is worshiped in the regions around the Chaska Sea and broader world by some androids, wyrwoods, and awakened constructs, and is especially popular among the wyrwoods of Laniobriga. Antikythera itself dwells deep in the labyrinth under Halakros.

Holy text

Antikythera’s holy text is The Eminent Form, its own blueprint stolen from Hephaistos’ workshop upon its escape. Its followers copy and distribute this blueprint, but do not attempt to use it in the creation of another lead golem. Template:HeroGods
