The Alkyonides Sea is a major body of water to the west of Hellea. Nearly as stormy and treacherous as the Sea of Khoros to the south, the Alkyonides Sea is relatively infrequently traveled, though historically settlements along the coasts of the sea were favored targets of Rothurlandic vikings.

Geography

The Alkyonides Sea is bounded by the Hellean peninsula to the east and north, the Coldwind Islands and Invelaust Ocean to the west, and the Sea of Khoros to the south. The definition of where the Alkyonides Sea ends and the Sea of Khoros begins is rather vague.

Inhabitants

The eastern coastline of the Alkyonides Sea, in Hellea, is rather sparsely inhabited. Most of the settlements of the Philiraki are farther to the south, on the Sea of Khoros, while the cities of Ephardia are largely located inland away from the water. Still, there are a handful of major Hellean ports on the Alkyonides Sea. The northern coasts are likewise only lightly populated.

Though their era has largely passed, in their heyday the towns around the Alkyonides Sea often raided by vikings out of Rothurland. Many eventually settled in the area, particularly within the Coldwind Islands, establishing new communities away from their northern homelands. Even in the modern day those living in these communities continue to maintain distinctly Rothurland traditions, worshiping the same gods, observing the same holidays, and preparing the same foods.

Trade

Aside from vessels traveling between Rothurland and the Chaska Sea, there is relatively little mercantile traffic through the Alkyonides Sea.
