Ha-Kolawa (pronounced HAH-koh-LAH-wah), or sky sailors, are a type of pterosaur native to the Wounds. Widely prized as mounts, Ha-Kolawa are raised and trained by many peoples of the Wounds, though they are status symbols for the dwarves of Harv Taruhm and Harv Doruhl in particular.

An average fully-grown Ha-Kolawa has a wingspan of almost thirty feet. They are immediately recognizable from other pterosaurs by their large, sail-like crests, with distinctive lava flow-like black and red patterns against their otherwise white membranes. These crests are unique to each Ha-Kolawa and commonly used to distinguish them.

Taming and raising a Ha-Kolawa is a long and arduous process that begins before they even hatch. The pterosaurs breed and lay their eggs only on the the three islands of the Nests, and will not do so anywhere else, despite many attempts to coax them to do otherwise. Braving their protective parents to acquire an egg is quite the ordeal and not for the ill-prepared. Once hatched they are tended to and trained diligently for years as they reach adulthood, both to accustom them to life around people and to prepare them as mounts.

Since the beginning of the demonic invasion of the Old Twins in Y9266*, the Ha-Kolawa breeding grounds on the Nests have been threatened repeatedly, even as the Shieldbound go out of their way to defend the islands.
