Memory shards are a method of retaining an individuals experiences using a form of memory magic developed by the ancient elves of Eita. Each individual shard is a small hexagonal crystal made of glass, rather similar in shape and appearance to quartz, that can store brief but vivid memories. As with many Eitan developments, the magic necessary to create new memory shards has been lost, but they remain plentiful in crashed aeroliths around the world and in the ancient ruins of Brightmarch.
In contrast to memory tablets, a similar type of item, the information stored by a memory shard is significantly shorter but can involve all senses and be experienced by any who pick it up as if they were undergoing the memory in person.
