Valando (pronounced vah-LAN-doe) is a small city located in the pass that separates the eastern and western Sentinel Peaks. Surrounded by several levels of large, concentric stone walls, this fortified settlement is a major stop for travelers along the Asterian Trail. Valando is built in the middle of the flattest part of the pass, with clear lines of sight from its walls over the surrounding farms and out to the mountains.

Valando has been ruled for the last hundred years by the frost giant King Dolos. Dolos is perfectly content for settlers heading north from Hellea to visit his city, though he has instructed the merchants of the city to charge exorbitant prices for supplies. The merchants are then in turn taxed heavily, with all proceeds delivered to the royal coffers. Dolos is personally very wealthy, something he flaunts openly in the gaudy throne room of his well-defended castle.
