Bone metal is a naturally occurring yet exceedingly rare material, notable for its self-repairing properties. The smithing process for the metal is complex and precise, requiring it to be heated it to extraordinarily high temperatures before being quickly cooled to almost two hundred degrees below freezing. If done successfully, items made of the metal will rapidly mend any dents or even cuts applied to them, no matter the severity of the damage.

While armors and weapons made of bone metal have been manufactured, these are prohibitively expensive for even the most absurdly wealthy. More commonly, relatively speaking, it is used to create armor plating around particularly vulnerable components in constructs, though even still it remains only within the grasp of the rich and powerful.

Around the Three Great Seas, bone metal is only known to be naturally found on the southern coast of the Sea of Khoros. Many settlements have been founded in these otherwise inhospitable lands with the sole goal of striking it rich through discovering bone metal deposits, most notably the Viridan senatorial colony of Arkarain, yet these have nearly universally met with failure.

Within the islands of the Wounds, bone metal is significantly more common than it is around the Three Great Seas, yet it remains very uncommon. The dwarves of Harv Taruhm are the only peoples of the region that make major use of the material.

The name of the material is derived from the appearance of its ore, which is said to resemble raw bone marrow.
