The Zarkuuz Canals (pronounced zarr-KOOZ) are a set of three artificial waterways in Tarkuus, built to redirect the water of the Zarkuuz River before it reaches the Kilche Sea. Hundreds of miles long, these channels were dug over the course of a century in the middle of the sixth millennium using the labor of uncountable skeletons, zombies, and other mindless undead. Though the Zarkuuz Canals require constant maintenance from Tarkuus' undead labor force to keep the waterways clear, they have become invaluable in the transportation of food, spices, and drugs from the inland plantations to the coastal cities. Along their paths the canals are diverted regularly to provide irrigation for the farms and smaller channels for transportation within the cities of Vuth Urqas, Vuth Gakrix, and Vuth Mecrux. The canals are nearly devoid of animal and plant life, aside from that which is intentionally cultivated.
