Karosha-Vaeno-Ne-Ta (pronounced kah-ROH-shah-VAY-noh-NEH-TAH) is an ancient and semi-legendary Ha-Kolawa matriarch. Though she has hatched no young in decades, she nonetheless spends half the year visiting the Nests, where she seems to maintain a vigil over the sea while the younger pterosaurs tend to their aeries.

More striking, though, are her actions the other half of the year, through which she has earned the respect and awe of many peoples of the Wounds. Even as the fledgelings are still learning to fly, she departs, crossing the ocean to the Old Twins. This is done not in the comparatively safe period when the extraplanar invaders have retreated, but rather her arrival marks the beginning of the demon-season. After her arrival to the Old Twins she is known to survey the islands from high above before settling into a perch near the highest point on the southern Twin, from which she fends off any demonic invaders that may threaten her.

The distinctive pattern in Karosha-Vaeno-Ne-Ta's crest is not the only way in which it helps to identify her - poorly healed damage to it long ago gave her call a distinctive deep warble that carries far over the waves.
