Tanais (pronounced tan-NA-iss) is a large town at the mouth of the Garen River on the northern coast of the Phiora Sea, roughly equidistant between Talam Galta and Druzda. It is considerably smaller than many of the inland cities nearby, such as Sanagoria and Massalia. This is at least in part due to cultural taboos the many centaur tribes of the region place on the arborglyphs carved into trees facing the sea near the mouth of the river, around which Tanais has grown - their refusal to travel or live nearby led to the area being essentially unpopulated until the near-simultaneous arrival of Hellea settlers and Druzdan tribes.
