The Lamented Cataracts are a series of dry waterfalls descending almost two hundred feet from a plateau within the Sangora Desolation to the sands below. Though they bear obvious signs of having carried water previously, today none is to be found, though the unmistakable grooves cut by its passing remain. The Lamented Cataracts are over 70 miles away from the current path of the Aur River, the nearest major source of water - it is not known if the Cataracts once flowed into the Aur, or if they were separated.
Today the Cataracts serve as a gathering place for both Bleached Bone gnoll tribes of the southern Sangora and for Seshem kasatha clans. Though they often come into competition and conflict elsewhere, both respect an uneasy peace at the Cataracts.
