The Fleet of the Desert is a mythical fleet of galleys said to sail the dunes of the Sangora Desolation like waves, crewed by ghostly half-real sailors. While most who live in the desert itself, like the Akwarai, Kessung, and Seshem, believe stories of the fleet to be nonsense, they nonetheless have proven enduring amongst those along the margins of the Sangora, especially the inhabitants of the Western Coast and the riverine communities of Khapesh.
In most stories, the fleet comes to the rescue of those stranded and disoriented by sandstorms, lack of supplies, or other ill fortune, carrying them with on the ships' journey until the next safe town or oasis is reached. But in a handful of legends, particularly popular in the coastal towns on the far western reaches of the Sangora, the fleet is instead malevolent, raiding any hardscrabble settlements they encounter and felling caravans in the deep desert.
