Akarn (pronounced AH-karn) is a large town in Rothurland, currently the capital of the jarldom led by the frost giant Hrimnir. Located amongst the redwood forests, this formerly peaceful town was conquered by Hrimnir in Y9953* as the first settlement in his new jarldom.
Though it has since been mostly rebuilt, the town was almost completely burned to the ground when Hrimnir's army of frost and stone giants attacked, its old longhouses reduced to ash and rubble. Many of Akarn's original inhabitants fled, replaced by new, physically larger arrivals.
Hrimnir ordered the construction of a grand longhouse to serve as his throne room, built out of the surrounding redwood trees and considerably larger than is typical, befitting Hrimnir's stature. When not leading his armies, the frost giant jarl can usually be found in his longhouse or elsewhere in Akarn.
