Each stores vast amounts of slightly sweet liquid in their roots so that they can survive the [[Great Tempests]] overhead and regrow their stems and leaves after they pass. Often ten feet or more below the surface, these are typically located through the use of specially-trained dogs. Nearly all the mass of a welltuber is below the ground. Left undisturbed for years, their bulbous roots can reach weights of over a ton each.

Despite the rough conditions, welltubers are uniquely well-adapted to life in the Storm-Path, and in fact seem to be unable to grow elsewhere. Attempts to transplant them and encourage propagation in the [[Oasis]] and elsewhere have all met with failure.
