'''Tanais''' {{Pronunciation|tan-NA-iss}} is a large town at the mouth of the [[Garen River]] on the northern coast of the [[Phiora Sea]], roughly equidistant between [[Talam Galta]] and [[Druzda]]. It is considerably smaller than many of the inland cities nearby, such as [[Sanagoria]] and [[Massalia]]. This is at least in part due to cultural taboos the many [[centaur]] tribes of the region place on the arborglyphs carved into trees facing the sea near the mouth of the river, around which Tanais has grown - their refusal to travel or live nearby led to the area being essentially unpopulated until the near-simultaneous arrival of [[Hellea|Hellea]] settlers and Druzdan tribes.
