Most of its inhabitants live as off the sea or by tending small herds, as the Cays are too arid to support agriculture.

A number of disparate groups have settled in the Sahelia Cays. Culturally its residents are the most similar to those of the [[Blacksand Archipelago]] to the west, connected far more to the other island-dwellers across the sea than to the tribes who live in the deserts to the nearby eastern coast. Most peoples in the Cays are of [[Kea Racha|Kea Rachan]] or [[Oscan]] origin, but also include new arrivals like the [[Garhhan]].

A major reef by the [[Sahelia Reef|same name]] lies amongst the archipelago.
