While clearly built in the image of the great Amshani cities of the south, in Narbanden reality has not caught up to ambition. The wealthier core of the city contains wide paved thoroughfares, singing buildings, and temple gardens, all expertly constructed, but moving outwards towards the city's edge it becomes considerably less elaborate, the stone brick roads giving way to dirt and the dwellings, stores, and workshops very evidently built more hastily. To a degree this is a result of the relative newness of Narbanden - it has not had the centuries to build up and refine its architecture and urban environment that southern Amshan has enjoyed.

Narbanden is ruled by the [[House Rhem|Rhem clan]] and two clerics appointed directly by the Amshani [[dynast]]. The clan tends to remove itself from governance of the city, however, and various less than savory figures have carved up informal influence over parts of Narbanden in their stead.
