Though the [[House Pelel|Pelel]] [[Viridian senate|senatorial family]] has long had a presence around Mygdon, influence over, and governance of, the city lies not with them but rather with the various [[dwarf|dwarven]] lords whose hill-ranches can be found in the surrounding countryside. The ancestors of these dwarves, originally [[Tumunzari]] from the [[Tumunzari Hills|rugged lands]] to the west, were long ago granted territorial concessions and certain political rights in exchange for their settlement in the wild eastern parts of the [[Sotosa Woods]] - their descendants continue to possess these rights, as well as the wealth accumulated by the many generations before them, both of which make them powerful figures in local society and government.

The city of Mygdon itself is relatively small by the standards of other cities of Casabon, home to barely more than ten thousand inhabitants. This is partially a factor of its geography - the Sotosa Woods in general are sparsely populated - and partially as the population is decentralized towards its surrounding villages and towns, which are high in number.

Life at each of the dwarven hill-ranches surrounding Mygdon centers around a circular fortified estate built upon an incline, where the local lord resides. Surrounding this is a network of smaller settlements, usually farming or logging villages, and carefully maintained fields and hunting grounds.
