Ammeris ahm-MARE-iss was the first king of Akhom. Though Khapeshan settlements along the northwestern coast of the Kilche Sea had been present for around two millennia prior, Ammeris is credited as the first to unite the disparate people living there into one nation. In Akhom, and now elsewhere in the diaspora after the Deluge, Ammeris is seen as hero and great leader of the Akhomite people. Statues, reliefs, and paintings of the king were common in buildings of state and religion, with new artwork depicting him still created even thousands of years after his death. Many in Akhom viewed Ammeris as a divine figure, something akin to a saint who brought together the kingdom following the orders and guidance of the gods.

Despite the significant of Ammeris to Akhomite history, much remains uncertain about his early life prior to his arrival in the Kilche port settlements. Throughout its history various successive monarchs of Akhom have claimed he was a priest - of Sokar, Harakhte, or Khenmu, perhaps - or a wealthy merchant-king who sought to forge a permanent legacy. Far more controversially, some have claimed he was a reformed pirate, or one who sought a refuge from the strength of the Khapeshan navy in the Age of Expansion.

Though he never had children, and no other monarch of Akhom ever took his name, Ammeris is often referred to as Ammeris I as a sign of respect. He is frequently called Ammeris the Father for much the same reason.
